Jim Shötz Signing Off

-

This will be my last column for The Dallas Beacon. I’m taking the money (a buy-out) and running (to Florida).

I’ve been writing here since The Dallas Beacon was The Dallas Freeman, before it was bought by Beacon National Media. I played the game for as long as I could. I like to think I got some good licks in. Our honest reporting on the stupidity of building a new tollroad in the Trinity flood zone probably saved Dallas from a major boondoggle.

But the truth is, when I look around, I don’t see much difference from how it was twenty years ago. If you don’t have a car, you can’t get anywhere in this city. And if you do have a car, our tangled network of highways designed by an autist are little better than a parking lot. There’s still a massive divide between poor (black) South Dallas and (white) North Dallas that’s little better than apartheid. City hall still get their strings pulled by the Dallas Citizens Council, who are little better than the Illuminati.

I wish I could say there’s hope on the horizon. Sure, this city’s got a couple honest councilmen, but they’re just going to get railroaded like their predecessors. Maybe whoever’s left at The Dallas Beacon will get back to doing some Honest-to-God investigative reporting, although the only reporters I see is know-it-all millennials think burning their sources makes them “one of the best reporters in this city.”

Whatever. It’s not my problem anymore. See ya’ll in hell.
